Here are more comments from parents that have their children in our Superior Swim Program:

"To whom it may concern....

I'm writing this as a completely unsolicited opinion/review of the quality of the swim lessons my child has received at Superior Athletic Club under the tutelage of Deane Wilson, or "Miss Deane" as she's known to her students.

My son Brodie started lessons just after turning 3, right around the end of April/beginning of May of 2013. Twice a week, for a half hour at a time he was in the pool initially learning basic survival techniques. I myself used to teach many of these same techniques while on active duty in the Marine Corps (CWSS) so I'm quite familiar with the utility of what my son was being taught. The important thing Deane was teaching was not to fear the water, and not to panic should one find oneself in the water.

Things were progressing well and on Memorial Day weekend, while at our family cabin Brodie managed to fall into the Coquille River and got swept off into the current. I was right there so he was only in the water for probable 10-15 seconds but he immediately did exactly what he was supposed to do, which was roll over on his back, kick off his crocs, and begin doing his "Flap-Flap-Kick-Kick" routine to stay afloat. Mind you, it had only been approximately 4 or so weeks and he'd already learned enough to stay afloat till I could get to him and he never once succumbed to panic. In fact, he wasn't really scared at all. The following week he was right back in the pool as if nothing had happened.

Deane Wilson manages her students well, which is crucial for a child like my Son, who is somewhat spirited and stubborn and will eat overly permissive adults alive. She keeps the kids on task and actively learning but keeps the class fun and engaging at the same time. It can't be easy managing a bunch of kids in a swimming pool but she does so with aplomb.

Thanks to Miss Deane the only casualty from the Memorial Day incident was the Crocs which floated down the river, and nearly my iPhone, but luckily quick thinking and a bag of rice fixed that right up.
Considering our cabin is roughly 25 miles from the nearest medical assistance, it could have been much much worse.

"My 22m old has been taking swim lessons with Miss Deane for 3 months. We were getting ready to go swimming, I was getting my older child ready, and my 22m old was beside me on the step, he slipped and fell into the pool, "gasp!" My husband and I both went to grab him out of the water, but I fought every instinct to grab him, and I told my husband, "no! leave him, I want to see what he does." He turned himself around underwater and swam back to the steps!!! We praised him, he was fine, got him ready for the pool and he jumped in!

Thank you Miss Deane!!!"
